Call Transfer Methods

Transfer calls to other extensions or phone numbers using blind transfer (immediate) or attended transfer (announce first).

Blind Transfer: *2 or ##
Attended Transfer: ** or *5


Blind Transfer

Quick Transfer (*2):

  1. During active call, press *2
  2. System prompts: "Transfer to?"
  3. Dial extension or number: 1234
  4. Press # or wait
  5. Call transfers immediately
  6. You disconnect

Caller Experience:

  • Hears "transferring" announcement
  • Brief hold music
  • Connects to new extension
  • Original person disconnected

Use Cases:

  • Routine transfers (receptionist → department)
  • Caller knows who they need
  • Fast redirection

Attended Transfer

Announced Transfer ()**:

  1. During call, press **
  2. Dial extension: 1234
  3. Announce to recipient: "John Customer on line 1"
  4. Press ** again to complete
  5. Or hang up (auto-completes)

  • Confirm recipient available

Transfer to External

External Number Transfer:

  1. Press transfer code
  2. Dial 9 + external number (or direct dial)
  3. Example: 9-555-1234
  4. Complete transfer (blind or attended)

External Transfer Costs

Transferring to external numbers uses trunk resources. May incur charges for external calls. Check policy before external transfers.


Transfer to Voicemail

Send to Voicemail: *5 + extension

Transfer caller directly to someone's voicemail without ringing:

  1. During call, press *2 (blind transfer)
  2. Dial *5-1234 (extension 1234's voicemail)
  3. Caller hears greeting, can leave message

Best Practices

  1. Use Attended for VIPs: Announce important callers
  2. Use Blind for Speed: Routine transfers don't need announcement
  3. Verify Extension: Confirm correct extension before transferring
  4. Provide Context: When using attended, give recipient key details
  5. Test Extensions: Ensure target extension working before transferring
  6. Fallback Plan: If transfer fails, apologize and try alternate method
